According to the legendary Buckminster Fuller: “Spaceship Earth is so extraordinary well invented and designed that to our knowledge the teeming masses – including humans – have been on board it board it for two million years or more not even knowing they were on board an earth ship…” So, how much more have the creatures that have roamed the earth to sky long before the seasons determined what would shape the planet or the light and the dark…
and then there are the – spring so brings warmer weather and new growth; summer to be the warmest with long days and full foliage; autumn to see temperatures cool and leaves change color; and winter is the coldest, with short days and dormancy for many plants and animals. These cycles occur because of the Earth’s tilted axis as it orbits the sun.
And so around the sun one finds the planet rotating as Adam Rudolph rotates his hands – wrist wise, a wholly natural way the climaxes and sudden changes of direction are so perfectly judged – hand-drum to berimbau, and other exotic instruments in his battery of drums – a measure of how well the conductor and soloist of this work so embedded in the nature of things know this work,
From the perfumed heaviness of the gilt opening of the work, the heaviness of the rapturous drumming and polite caressing of the other drums and percussion instruments stroked in his repertoire of instruments, arabesques of the lats movement, the richly mysterious mood is beautifully maintained.
